History of The Club

The history of Bestwood lodge tennis courts goes back to 1950 when the British army owned The Bestwood Lodge Hotel and the surrounding areas. The formation of Bestwood Lodge Tennis Club (BLTC) was first proposed in 1986 by the Bestwood Lodge Residents Association (BLRA). The 2 tennis courts at Pavilion Road were part of a military base used by the army during the war until the 1970s when the army sold the land.

BLRA obtained commitments from 40 local households to refurbish the courts. Bestwood St. Albans Parish Council also provided an improvement grant. BLTC was formally established in 1987 and the courts repaired to playing standard. The courts are owned by Gedling Borough Council

In Easter 2000, the courts hosted a half-term holiday coaching programme for school children in conjunction with Gedling Borough Council.
